Twins…

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

A long time ago, when we barely knew Jesse and Laurie, they came by our house. I think it was one of the days we were going to go to the dog park with the dogs. Or it was just a day to hang out together. Whatever it was, I remember that both Jesse and Rory were wearing similar cloths. That was a snapshot moment and of course I took the shot:

Imagine my delight when just a few days I took a picture of Rory and then the next day one of Jesse and they again looked like twins.

Starting Work Again…

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

It has been three weeks or so since I blogged. It seems a lot harder to do so now that I’ve started work again. Things are busy and moving forward which is great. But that leaves very little for leisure time.

One of the unfortunate things that happened was with my new camera. In a previous post I mentioned that I got an error when I first bought the camera but that after stubbornly refusing to give up I finally got it to work. The problem is, that after a week, it again acted up and this time I could not fix it. So on the last day of the return policy, I sent it back. I decided to give the camera another try and so I bought a new one from another store. It’s on the way and when it gets here I will once again be filled with excitement and anticipation to make sure it works. I sure hope so!

Stay tuned! You will hopefully see some cool pictures coming up!

A day snowboarding

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Today was a great day. We woked up early in the morning and drove to Snoqualmie Pass to snowboard and ski. Rory had his telemarking skis while I had my snowboard. Though I’ve only snowboarded 3 times before, I decided snowboarding was more what I was interested in doing instead of skiing.

So today, I had my fourth session. I wouldn’t say that it went smoothly, but it was fun.

First, we got there and Rory was nice to stay by my side on the green. The lifts were full with people but it was a great day so we didn’t mind.

Coming down on the mountain was a different story. I was up and down, up and down.

I really got quite good at falling down…

All in all the day was great and when we finished, we were thoroughly cold. The weather was 18 degrees Fahrenheit.

The skies and snowboard did quite well and now they are resting for another day when they’ll be used again.

Canon 5D Mark II issue…

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

So I finally received the camera I’ve been waiting for. It has been almost 4 months since I’ve ordered it and yesterday the camera came. it was a very exciting time, only to be disappointed.  After using it for just a few minutes, I suddenly received “error 20” whenever I tried to take a picture. Needless to say, last night was very disappointing.

However, I did not want to quit playing with it even when the error kept appearing. I read all there was on the web about this issue and followed all the instruction I could find in order to try and fix it. One thing that they did not mention but which I kept doing was to continually attempt to take pictures. That is, I set my camera to continue shooting and pressed the button. The error kept appearing but I didn’t care. I kept on shooting.

Then suddenly, after doing this for some time, the camera started working. And just like that, it continued to work. Today, I used it for 12 or so hours and it has not failed once. So I am hopeful that it will remain working.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from today and yesterday as I was testing it to make sure it is working:

^ This is Rory as he got home from a bike ride yesterday. FedEx brought the camera about 10 minutes before…

^ I tried the monochrome setting of the camera. Not bad!

^ Using my Tokina 12-24MM lens, I took a picture of the neighborhood. of course this lens does not let me go all the way down to 12mm. Instead it provides an interesting circular block.

Below is a picture of a picture on our wall. It is a wedding day photo. Even though I did not take it in sepia, it has that feel, which is kind of cool.

This morning, Rory, Teika and I went for a walk. Along the way, I continued to test the camera to make sure it is working.

And tonight, I tested it in the cold since that is when it failed last night.
