A trip to Seattle

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Before new years, I had fun going around Seattle and taking pictures of the city. Here are a few highlights:

A fun thing to see in Seattle is the enormous gum wall in Pike Place Market:

Pike Place Market is an amazing and colorful subject to photograph. I never get bored to go there and take pictures.

And then of course there is the waterfront by the market.

Of course Freemont and Wallingford with the water, Gasworks Park and cute shops is a great backdrop for photography.

Heather & Dan Wedding

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

07/07/07 has been a very special day for Heather and Dan. Not only where they married on such an awesome date, but they got married on the Safeco Field. Truly a dream wedding for both who are huge baseball fans.

Finn at 6 months

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Capturing moments with kids is a great time. Not only are they extremely photogenic but they often are curious by the camera in front of them and love to just stare at it. A classic shot of that is the picture below of my friends son Finn:

Here is Finn crawling everywhere in the house and playing with his toys:

Visiting Darian

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

At the end of February I went on a business trip to Pittsburgh. As it happened that I was done with the trip on Friday evening and Darian lives about 4 hours from Pittsburgh, I pinged him to see if he was available and willing to come meet me there. He was and we ended up having a great evening together.

The second day on Saturday we woke up early and had a little breakfast, before we started our long drive to Washington DC.

The drive was not too bad at all and since I did not see my brother for some time, it was really good to be together on the drive. Once we arrived in DC we went to a nice lunch place and decided to take a few fun photos of each other. Here are some of my favorites:

After lunch, I took a few pictures of his lovely home. He almost finished the kitchen but now will be moving out of the house. Life happens and it’s sad but I’m glad he is doing well. He’s an awesome brother and will get the right things in life!

Lastly, we went to celebrate a friend of Darian’s 35th birthday party. It was nice to meet a few of the people that Darian hangs out with regularly.

It was awesome to see my big brother!

A trip to Arboretum

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Last Sunday, Rory and I went on another urban city hike. We have not done one since the holidays but with the weather being a little nicer than it’s been and with the new camera in hand, we decided to travel to the Arboretum.

I’ve posted the photos from the trip on my SmugMug site, but here are a few favorites.

^ The bridge came up as we were walking towards the Arboretum. I love seeing come up as it’s an awesome representation of the kind of amazing work humans can do.

^A door half hidden by ivy. It reminds me of a fairy tale…maybe it’s the house of the seven dwarfs?

^ Spring is just around the corner. The plants are slowly but surely coming alive again.

The day ended up nicely with a total of 3+ hours of walking. Now that’s a good Sunday!

Mutoli Family

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Though I’ve only had the pleasure to spend one hour with the Mutoli family, I have enjoyed my session with them and their baby girl. The colors in following photos have been decreased for a softer, older look.

A trip to Gearhart

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Our friends, Jesse and Laurie had a trip planned to Gearhart Oregon. This was a birthday present for Laurie and an excuse to visit the beach, eat seafood and let the dogs run and be free. Of course when Rory and I found out about this and also that they were going to have a house with 3 bedrooms for four days, we decided to jump at the opportunity to join them for the weekend.

We took Friday off and had a blast. Here are some photos from the weekend. For the rest, you can check out: http://stanca.smugmug.com/gallery/7321919_Rvz8J#471038216_Qs6GM

For dinner, we had crab, salad and pasta. And of course we had oysters, oysters, oysters. We had a lot of oysters! Here are a few photos from that evening:

The next morning, we had a great meal and the dogs were ready to go to the beach again.

While on the beach, the boys flew kits while the dogs watched from far way, some being afraid, some just looking and some just resting.

And of course we and the dogs had a lot of fun on the beach.

Maybe a little too much fun. Below, Rory was enjoying sitting on a tree branch as the waves came by, surprise and made him a little wet!

And then, there were the pictures of us as we were enjoying the beautiful, sunny yet a bit cold day.

The Allen Girls

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

After photographing Michelle, I had the great opportunity to take pictures of my former manager’s daughter. The girls were amazing and I had a great time taking their photos. Here are some photos of the oldest one:

And here are some photos of the baby (with the most incredible eyes I’ve ever seen:

A trip to the Zoo

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Over the weekend, I decided to rent a 28-300 L lens from Glazers. Glazers is a great camera store in Seattle. You can buy cameras from there as well as rent equipment. a $2,500.00 lens was only $30.00 for 2 days. It’s an incredible deal and a great way to test out lenses.

You can find all of the photos at: http://stanca.smugmug.com/gallery/7253878_xMYwv

But here are some of my favorites:

A session with my mother

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Growing up, my father took a lot of photos of my mother and us. For a family living in Romania during the communist times, it is incredible that we have so many photos of us. It seems that my father had a camera and actually developed the photos himself. And my mom loves the camera. So one day in November 2005 I invited her at my place and we had a fun time goofing around with the camera.

She brought along with her a basket of apples.

And a series of other objects that were fun to play around with.

And lastly, she is an artist and has always found different mediums to experiment in. Lately she’s been creating paintings with a needle and thread:
