Maui Vacation

Friday, March 27th, 2009

On March 18th, Rory and I boarded the Hawaiian airplane on our way to Maui. After a winter vacation staying home and enjoying 2 weeks of great snow in Seattle, we felt it was time to actually take a real vacation away from home. And what other place to go than Hawaii. To me, a vacation means nice weather and water. So the Hawaiian islands are always a place to visit for a break from the every day life of Seattle.

Below are some photos from our trip. For all of the photos, you can check out Maui (2009).

^ It’s tough when you have to get to the airport two hours ahead of time, but at least we were going on vacation so waiting was actually not too bad!

^ In the first hotel we stayed, every night we had a show that we could watch from our balcony with traditional Hawaiian dancing.

^This boat is sunk and visible from the Lahaina shores in Maui.

^During sunset, this is one of many spectacular views that one can see from Lahaina shores.

^A popular snorkeling area, many boats come here with visitors.

^Rory saw a ladder climbing down into the rocks and decided it was a cool idea to use it. He gave me his phone and hat in case something went wrong so that I could call 911. Of course, he kept the car keys!

^We were very hot after a fun afternoon snorkeling, so we stopped at a cute house in the north west area of Maui and had shave ice with ice cream. Rory had banana bread with ice cream. It was wonderful.

^One of many shots of Rory boarding on the waves.

^This was a very beautiful but windy area in the south west part of Maui. Three years ago when we went, we were able to go through the black rocks and I took some awesome pictures. I was looking forward to more of the same but this year the path was closed due to too much human disturbance of natural resources.

^This was the view from the second place we stayed. It is called Hana Hotel and it was the ultimate luxury.

^Beautiful red sandy beach.

^I love the little lizard creatures. They were really cool to photograph. I was inches away from them and they were very kind to not run away.

^Rory and I. One of a few photos of both of us.

Maui is an awesome island to visit. If you ever have a chance to go, I really recommend it. It is the ultimate in relaxation!

Gearhart, Oregon

The beach is a great place to take photos. Last weekend, I went to Gearhart in Oregon. The weather turned out to be great, so below are some shots from the trip.

Neighborhood photos

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Living in Seattle provides for a great opportunity to photograph the great scenery around. With Lake Union close by and 45th street in Wallingford, and decent weather, I ventured outside to photograph the neighborhood.

Cold weather is a great time for tea and one great way to make tea that has a beautiful presentation as well as using the jasmine flowering tea.

The neighbors have an interesting weed in their yard. After the leaves fade away, the inside of the leaves remain and become dry. It’s a great home decoration.

Here are a few night shots of the city.

One of the best cupcakes can be found at the Trophy Cupcake located in the Wallingford Center. Yummy!

And finally, ending with a view of Seattle from Lake Union.

Peaceful times

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

I am inspired by the world, the people and the incredible moments we each experience and share. As I’m sitting here at the Seattle Art Library, creating this blog site, I cannot help but feel the peaceful and calm around me. I am sitting in a quite area and it is very inspiring. Not being allowed to make loud noise or hearing loud sounds around me is refreshing and wonderful. Don’t get me wrong, I love the noise of the city, it is just that being surrounded by quiet is very welcoming once in a while.

And so, my journal continues and with it, new insights, new moments and new adventures await.

Remember Michelle?

Monday, March 9th, 2009

So my neighbor’s daughter got married earlier this year. It’s hard to believe that two years went by since the first photo event with her. Rory and I got to go to the wedding and here are a few candid photos.

I love the shot below of Kari. She is so happy and beautiful and her hair has grown really long. A very lovely moment.

“The end”

February in Cle Elum

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Last weekend, Rory, Teika and I headed for a short but fun weekend in Cle Elum. We went there to pick up the mail and make sure the water was running correctly. Every time I go to Cle Elum though, I always experience total relaxation. This time was no exception.

Just for Fun

Friday, March 6th, 2009

One day, I got dressed up for a photo event that never happened. So just for fun, I decided to setup the camera on a tripod and take some photos of Teika and I. One quickly realizes how incredibly hard it is to take great shots without being behind the camera.

Teika is such a great dog. She is my number one model and I’m pretty sure she loves having her picture taken.

And at the end of the day, Teika was exhausted.

It’s kind of fun to play around with filters. Here I was exploring a softer glow around Teika and I.

The beginnings…

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

With photography, I have been able to capture the moments in people’s lives and be part of their story. A few years ago, my neighbor’s daughter graduated from High School. I signed up to take a few photos of her and the rest of history…

So I think it is only fitting to start my photo blog with her:

Michelle is an amazing girl and incredibly photogenic. Here are a few more photos of her:
