Sunday Cooking

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Autumn is here and with the leaves turning more and more activities are done inside. And for us this was no exception. Today we cooked, cleaned and hung around in the warmth of our house.

First, we warmed up mom’s delicious red stuffed peppers for lunch. This is a great meal and we ate it feverously.

Next, we had a lot of apples from my parent’s apple trees. Rory made apple sauce and the wonderful apple and cinnamon aroma filled the house. We ate this with pork for dinner. It was delicious.

Lastly, Rory decided to make an apple pie. It has been a while since he made one and the last one did not turned out so great. So he was a little reserved to do it but since we had more apples and pears from him parents too, he decided it can’t hurt. He made everything including the crust. The pie turned out amazing!

We had a great Sunday!

‘Tis the season for grapes

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

I love this time of the year. The leaves are changing colors and the grapes are ripening. The air is crisp and cold while the sun still shines brightly. It is a time to remember one’s childhood. And I remember mine, living in Romania with my family. In this time, we did not go to school but instead, all the kids went to harvest food. And one of the best places to go was to pick grapes. Many memorable days were spent picking grapes, playing with my friends and stuffing my bag with as many grapes as I could so that I could bring them home to be enjoyed with my family. Yes, this was what every child did, and my brother and I sure were no exceptions.

That is why, today when I collected some of the grapes that have spilled over into our yard from our neighbors’, I remembered the great times of childhood.

The den is done…

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Today marks a big achievement. After a summer full of work on the den, it is finally done. Well, there’s still a bit of trim painting to be done and we need curtains, but all the furniture is in and there are still shelves ready to be stocked with office goodies. Here update photos of the den.

It’s great to be done. Now I can finally focus on computer work!

The den is setup…and almost done

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

This weekend I spent a bit more time painting the three window trims. I still have to go over them with one more coat. Still, I couldn’t resist bringing my computer and setting it up with the furniture I have thus far. There’s still one more bookshelf to get, but that will come later as Dania did not have it in stock at the moment.

AS one enters the den from the living room, this is what one sees:

Looking to the right, is a little reading and relaxing place:

To the left is my desk with all my home office needs:

The desk is a little large and does not have the cabinet space that I need, so we’ve bought a smaller one that is due here on Wednesday.

From the desk I can look outward into the living room. With the doors close, it is a perfect den. But as you can see, there’s still work to be done on the doors:

And of course with the doors opened, the real reason why I wanted a den in the first place… so that I can watch TV while working!

Rory coming into the den while I was taking pictures. He has worked very, very hard and is the main reason the den got done!
