Emma as a bear

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

A few days ago, I dressed Emma up in a cute little bear outfit from my mother. We got dressed so we could go outside for a little walk with Teika. Here are a few pictures of Emma in the bear outfit.

Emma was not quite sure about this outfit. She cried when I put it on but then got used to it.

And just because, here are a few pictures of Emma with a cute little mohawk.

Baby and routines…

Monday, April 26th, 2010

As Emma is growing older week by week and I am at home with her all day, it has been helpful to have a few routine things to do. It has been very surreal for me to be home all day and not be at work. I have always worked since I was 16 years old.

Though motherhood is a lot of work, it is a different kind of work than what I’ve done before. I can now honestly say that the first few weeks after we brought Emma home were surreal and tough. I am soooooooooooooo glad that as the weeks passed on, so has the fact that I’ve got a daughter to take care of become easier.  I don’t think I can have a very strict daily schedule as some of the baby books suggest in order to make sure that Emma sleeps through the night. However, I do like the idea of having some routines that we do every day. Bath time is one such routine though she is only having them twice a week. Another is some awake time either on her Activity Gym which I’ve blogged about before, in the bouncy chair, or in her crib.

Emma can usually keep entertained in the crib for about 15 or 20 minutes. Then it’s on to a new activity.

Yesterday we added a new routine. That is, every night as she is preparing to bed, not only will she get her dipper changed, but also her outfit. And as luck would have it, I’ve got a few outfits that look more like nightgowns. So from now one, they will be her pajamas.

First the play outfit during the day.

And of course I can’t resist kissing her. She’s doesn’t always like it but until she can tell me she doesn’t want to be kissed, I will keep on kissing her.

My friend Amy came by and held Emma. Emma was fascinated by her.

And then Rory held her in the awesome football hold. I just love, love seeing these pictures!!!

Then the pajamas during the night.

Over the past few weeks…

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I’ve been going back and fourth between posting pictures to Facebook vs. blogging. As Emma is sleeping in the Ergobaby I thought I’d take a few moments to reflect over the photos taken in the past. So this blog post is a random assortment of events that happened in the past few weeks.

First, one evening Rory, Emma and I went to Shilshole to see the sunset.

Another event that happened was meeting with Robin and Brynn. Brynn is one month exactly older than Emma. Though they do not know it, I’m sure they’ll be good buddies when they get a bit older and can play together.

It is nice to visit with friends and besides meeting Brynn, Emma also met Vienna. Vienna is 10 months old. The difference between her and Emma was astounding. Both Rory and I took mental notes of what to look for when Emma was 10 months. Vienna is a very happy baby and she was crawling, standing, smiling, laughing and having a great time.

The day was absolutely amazing so we had fun taking the dogs and the girls for a walk around Gasworks Park.

And we’ve started to go on walks everyday. I usually have Emma in the Ergobaby while Teika is on a leash. This has worked really great and I like it more than the stroller.

As Emma enjoys some awake and sometimes sleep time in her bouncy chair, I’ve been watching Ellen DeGeneres and have recently done my nails. Ah, it’s good to be back to normal life again.

And finally, last Friday Emma and I visited my mom. My mom has all kinds of dolls she’s been collecting. And one was a little baby doll. So it was fun to take the picture below.

As always, my mom has a lot of great food and this visit was no exception. For lunch we had a great meal that consisted of tomato soup with dumplings, salad and a chicken and green beans dish.

Play time and tummy time

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Yesterday, Emma played on her Activity GYM again and had a bit of a tummy time.

IMG_3652    IMG_3658

I can’t believe how quickly she is becoming a little, individual person. I cannot wait until I can hear her talk. Until then, her cute little sounds melt my heart. And of course the cries break it.

IMG_3650

IMG_3657

Teika is always close by. She is very concerned when Emma cries and if I’m not by Emma’s side, Teika is by my feet telling me that it’s time to go and comfort Emma.

IMG_3659

IMG_3668    IMG_3683

Though she does not like to stay on her tummy for very long, I put her on her tummy every day. Sometimes it’s mommy and Emma tummy time.

After the tummy time, daddy came home and rescued her. She was pretty thankful.

Bath time face…

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Emma and I have gotten into a pattern for bath time. Though we’ve only done it a few times now I think we are getting the hang of it. And thanks to my friend Krista’s bath gift, Emma can stay comfortable in the bath tub. But I can’t resist posting the photo below because it really cracks me up. The look on her face says it all. Though she does not cry when I lather her with soap or clean her with water, she does frown. And in this picture, she’s making a fist with her hand as if to punch me. He he he…

Cle Elum in April

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Over the weekend we went to Cle Elum and Leavenworth. Cle Elum is always a great place to go and relax. But this was our first trip with Emma so we didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be a great trip. With the exception of dipper change being a bit more challenging, things turned out good. And Rory got some quality time with Emma as I went grocery shopping.

IMG_0265     IMG_0268     IMG_0271

Then it was my time for belly time with Emma. I just love the open mouth as she is sleeping. Rory says she gets that from me. Apparently, when I’m tired and I sleep very deeply, my mouth is open…

IMG_0211    IMG_0230

When we got to Cle Elum, Rory started setting up the Pack’n Play for Emma. It proved to be a challenge but he finally got it figured out and she was all set.

IMG_0207

And the one just below is one of my ultimate favorite pictures. Emma is staring at her daddy while Rory is tenderly touching her. You can see the love in his entire body!

IMG_0204

And in the morning Rory had some play time with Emma. Of course she was wearing the appropriately labeled shirt “daddy loves me”. This is the first outfit we received for her when I was around 20 weeks pregnant. It was also the first time that we looked at each other and said “boy, are we ready for this?”… you can never be ready to take care of another human being but you can sure try.

One of our favorite places to go for coffee and pastries is the Pioneer Coffee Roasting Co. If you are ever in Cle Elum and love coffee, you’ve got to check this place!

IMG_0249

On Saturday we went to Leavenworth where we go about 4 hours to walking and window shopping before Emma woke up. So of course we had to be silly.

A very successful outing! And of course, Teika was with us too!

Mommy time…

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I have the whole day to play and gaze at Emma, to love and hold her. But it is rare that I will take pictures of her and I. Well, yesterday I decided to use the point and shoot camera and take some pictures. We were both dressed to impress waiting for a friend and her 2 months old.

Flowers by Rory

Monday, April 12th, 2010

On Saturday, Rory decided to take out his point and shoot camera (Canon S90) and take some pictures of the wonderful flowers his parents planted in our yard while we were at the hospital welcoming Emma into this world.

Daddy time on Saturday morning…

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Since Rory has started going to work, he has not gotten a lot of time with Emma. When he comes home she is either feeding or sleeping. However, this morning after doing a dipper change, Rory got some play time with Emma.

Here Emma is trying to use her neck. She is actually pretty strong for a 3.5 week old baby.

IMG_3532

And here they are just gazing at each other. Precious father and daughter moment.

And of course who can resist making funny faces at a baby.

Tania’s Baby Shower

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Yesterday was Tania’s baby shower. Unlike most of the baby showers this had guys as the the majority of the guests. It was pretty fun to see boys involved in baby stuff. As Tania mentioned, she has more male friends than female friends. I too have had more guy friends than female, though now with baby Emma, I definitely am around girls a lot more. And I love it. Of course, Tania will be having a boy so I wonder if the male to female ratio of friends that she has will remain the same. Either way, the baby shower was great. The food was wonderful and friends had a chance to gather and celebrate a new life soon to join us in this world.

Tania, I took a lot of pictures of the food, the people and the decorations, but for some reason the camera claims not to have those photos… so the only ones that I do have are the ones when you opened the present. I’m bummed but hope you enjoy them nonetheless.
